The word “Yazd” means pure and holy and the city of Yazd also mean the city of God and the holy land. In the first law of division of the country, Yazd province was one of the 12 provinces of Iran. In the second law of division of the country approved in 1316, Yazd city and Isfahan formed the tenth province. In 1348, Yazd was separated from Isfahan province and became the governor general. This province was considered as one of the cities of the tenth province until 1352, which was promoted to the province in 1352 with the approval of the Council of Ministers. It is worth mentioning that Shahre Babak city also separated from Yazd in 1337 and joined Kerman. Yazd is located in the center of Iran and is adjacent to the provinces of Isfahan, South Khorasan, Kerman and Fars. This province has an area of about 74493 square kilometers and alone covers four and a half percent of the total area of Iran. In spring and summer, most climates in the province are hot and dry, and in winter and autumn are cold and relatively humid. Yazd is the second city in Iran after Bam to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
