 Let’s get to know one of the seven amazing villages of the world. Makhunik is a village hidden in the heart of the mountains with strange customs and culture that has prevented the people of that region from entering the world of technology for centuries. The great country of Iran is a land with many natural and tourist attractions, many of which are still unknown to many people, such as Makhunik village in Birjand.

Makhunik village is about 300 years old and is one of the target villages for tourism. Due to its unique biological and cultural characteristics, this village is among the 10 strange villages of Iran and one of the tourist attractions of Sarbisheh, Makhunik has been able to attract the attention of many researchers in addition to tourists.

The main reason for Makhunik’s fame is its people. People whose short stature has made them famous. The average height of the village people is about 80 to 120 cm. The short height of the people of this village has caused them to be nicknamed Li Li Pot.

Another characteristic of Makhunik village is the architecture of the houses that, unlike normal houses, are built underground and sometimes their roofs are at ground level. Houses that are built according to the height of the residents and are located almost one meter inside the ground. Adobe houses whose roofs are made of thorn and thatch or mud. These houses do not have a specific shape and were created according to the unevenness of the area.

Most half of the house being inside the ground has made the environment inside it very cool in summer and very cold in winter. All the houses of the village have access to the main mosque of the village which is located in the middle of it. Therefore, the architecture of the village, which is one of the surrounding villages of Sarbisheh, is another of its cultural signs.
