Khorasan Razavi province is one of the provinces of Khorasan in eastern Iran, centered in Mashhad. The area of this province is 118,854 square kilometers, which is the fifth largest province in the country.
The word Razavi in the name of this province refers to the tomb of Ali ibn Musa al-Reza in the center of this province.
The area of Khorasan Razavi province is 117.769 square kilometers, which covers 7% of the total area of Iran. 49.2% of the province is mountainous and 50.8% is plain. This province includes 4 catchment areas of Atrak, Qaraghoom, Central Desert and Eastern Iran.
This province has relative and moderate rainfall in terms of rainfall and humidity. In 2010, Quchan city with 296 mm had the highest annual rainfall and Gonabad city with 71 mm had the lowest annual rainfall among the centers of cities with meteorological stations.
The population of Khorasan Razavi according to the General Census of Population and Housing (2016) is equal to 6,434,501 people, which is the second largest province in Iran in terms of population.
