Shahdad Dessert Tour

Shahdad

Have you ever wondered where the hottest spot on earth is ? It is interesting to know that this point is located in Iran, Kerman province, Shahdad desert. This desert, in addition to being the hottest spot on the planet, also has an interesting phenomenon in its heart, which is called Kalut. The phenomenon of Kalut Shahdad is one of the natural and unique attractions of Iran, in the heart of which you can do a variety of exciting activities such as safari and desert climbing and enjoy watching the night sky. The desert is always reminiscent of the words peace and silence and has many fans. Now, if you can see a beautiful and attractive phenomenon like Kalut in it, you can experience a much more attractive journey. A phenomenon that is so widespread in the desert of Shahdad that some people use the word Kalut to refer to Shahdad instead of the word desert.

Shahdad desert of Kerman is a region in the heart of Kerman province near Shahdad city, which has an interesting phenomenon called Kalut. Kalut means the ridges that have risen in the heart of the desert. The surface of the highest point of these ridges is perfectly flat, but the surface facing the wind is quite sloping. The formation of these ridges is usually the result of old lake sediments that have appeared as erosive hills. Some people believe that the word Kalut is composed of two parts, “Kol” and “Lut”, which means village and Lut refers to the plain of Lut.

Kalut Shahdad Kerman is a unique and natural attraction that is similar to that seen only in Utah, USA. Kalut Shahdad, with very beautiful and attractive images that are a bit both mysterious and eerie, invites and hosts a large number of domestic and foreign tourists every year. The existence of this unique phenomenon and observing it from a close distance alone is enough for a tourist interested in the desert to go to this area and go sightseeing in it. However, the Shahdad desert of Kerman offers other entertainment as well. It attracts tourists and invites them to a pleasant and memorable trip, especially in autumn.

The Kaluts of Shahdad Kerman date back to about 20,000 years ago. These Kaluts, which were once formed due to water erosion and wind, are now about 145 km long and 70 km wide, and have been stretched from north to south, occupying an area equivalent to 11,000 square kilometers of the Lut plain. The Shahdad desert of Kerman, along with the beautiful images that it displays, has another interesting feature, and that is that it has the highest temperature in the whole world. Shahdad desert is a part of Lut plain, which is named as the hottest spot on earth in the UNESCO World Heritage List, and this has made this region famous all over the world. In fact, desert research by Professor Parviz Kordvani about the Shahdad region has made it the hottest spot on earth. However, in 2005, a representative of NASA announced that the temperature in this region was around 70.7 degrees Celsius.

How to form Shahdad Kaluts

The two factors that always play a role in the formation of the clout phenomenon are water and wind. So that every time it rains and the wind blows, the Kaluts take on a different shape. The wind that creates the Kaluts of Shahdad is the winds that blow from the side of Sistan province during a period of 120 days and cause the erosion of the walls of the Kaluts and give a new face to these beautiful natural phenomena.

Some geological experts believe that Rudshour is more effective than any other factor in the formation of Shahdad Kaluts in Kerman. The water of this river provides the necessary moisture for the formation of Kaluts and keeps their walls moist. Rudshour is a permanent river in the heart of Lut plain, which is the only permanent river in this region. The origin of this river is the mountains north of Birjand. After crossing a route of about 200 km, Rudshor reaches the salt mountain of Seria and the hole of the salt mine, and it is natural that it becomes very salty.

Historical and natural importance of Shahdad region

One of the important aspects of Shahdad desert is the existence of a natural structure called Kalout, which is formed due to the cooperation of two elements, water and wind, and has interesting and attractive shapes. The second important point about the Shahdad Desert, which makes it special and spectacular, is that its name has been registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This is while it seems that there is a civilization of about 6 thousand years in a short distance from the Kaluts of Shahdad. This statement is due to the extraction of old works such as pottery, sculptures and ornaments, the oldest of which is a work called Darfash Shahdad. All these cases can be a reason for the great importance of the Shahdad region in terms of history and nature.
