Vali Castle

Vali Castle

Vali Castle is one of the most important historical buildings and places of interest in Ilam. This building is actually the residence of the governor in the summer season, that is built on a hill and its height is around 3.5 to 4 meters. There is an inscription in Takht Khan, which mentions the history of this fort. According to this epitaph, the architect of the Governor’s Castle was Haj Darvish Ali Kermanshahi and the sculpting work was done by Reza Qoli. In the northern part of the castle, there is a royal hall, the size of which is bigger than the other rooms of the castle, and it is very beautiful and spectacular. In the middle of it is a small pond that was decorated with marble around and inside, but during the renovation, it was decorated with colored tiles.

Last year, the Vali Castle changed its use to the Ilam Anthropology Museum, which consists of different sections and is now considered one of the richest specialized anthropology museums. This castle is one of the most valuable historical monuments of Ilam Province, which is a remnant of the Qajar period in Iran, and it has been registered in the list of national monuments of Iran.
