Burj-i Mehmandust is one of the sights of Semnan. The Burj-i Mehmandust has a long history and has gone through many events and is waiting for a listening phone to tell its stories and adventures. This tower, with its three tombs and its rare architecture, is one of the most exceptional tomb towers in Iran and has a long history. Although there is a similar tower in other places, but the architecture of this tower was very special and dazzles the eyes of every viewer.
This tower is located 16 km from Damghan and is 1000 years old and belongs to the Seljuk era. Considering the antiquity of this tower and the events that have passed, it can be understood which the architecture of the tower has been done with great care and elegance, which this tower has been able to survive despite various weather disasters and wars (such as Nader Shah Afshar and Ashraf Afghan). Stand up. Although the architecture and style of construction of the tower is impressive and beautiful.
The Burj-i Mehmandust is a 12-sided building with a height of 14.5 meters. In the upper part, there are three rows of Mogharnas and on top of it, there is an inscription that surrounds the building and the date of construction of the building is mentioned in Kufic script (490 AH according to the time of Sultan Sanjar of Seljuk). Although the tower is built on a circular foot, but its body has been transformed into a dodecahedron and then a cylinder, and this deformation has turned the Burj-i Mehmandust into a special tower. The inner radius of the tower is 8 meters and it has 12 cracks of 1.22 meters, one of that is the entrance of the Burj-i Mehmandust. One of the interesting points of the tower is that its height has decreased over time. In the past, this dome tower had a conical shape and with the destruction of that dome, the height of the tower has decreased over time. It is interesting to know that this tower is very similar to the Tughral tower of Rey city and for this reason it is also called the hospitable Tughral tower.
It is interesting to know that the locals know this tower as “Sarbrandar Tower”. The reason for this name is the lack of a roof for the tower. According to locals, the past narrated that one day when they woke up, they saw the tower without a roof, without any accident or accident. After that, several attempts were made to build the roof of this tower, but all efforts failed, as if the tower does not accept any other roof than its main roof. Inside are a brick tomb and two other tombs whose owners are unknown and may have been the tombs of local elders.
