Shah Cheragh

Shah Cheragh

Shah Cheragh is the tomb of Mir Seyyed Ahmad, the son of Musa Kazem, the seventh Shia leader. This building was built during the Atabakan period of Persia in the sixth century AH and its dome and court have beautiful tiles.

The interior of the shrine is mirrored with colored mirrors, and a variety of beautiful Persian and Arabic lines adorn the facade around the mirrors and tiles. The shrine is built on a porch in front and a large space behind the porch. On the four sides of this space, there are four emperors and a mosque has been built behind the shrine (west side). Its shrine is located in the emperor under the dome and is made of silver. The courtyard of Shah Cheragh has two main entrance doors, that pass south and north of the shrine under two large tiled doors and enter the wide courtyard of the shrine.

In the middle of the courtyard, a large fountain pond has been built and trees have been planted around the pond. The shrine of Shahcheragh is located on the west side of the courtyard and the shrine of Seyyed Mir Mohammad – Shah Cheragh’s brother – is located on the northeastern side of the courtyard. Apart from the two main doors, there are two other side doors, one to the Haji Bazaar and the other to the Atiq Grand Mosque. A gate-like entrance enters the Shah Cheragh Bazaar from the north side of the courtyard. Around the courtyard, two-story rooms have been built with tiled fronts and rafters. The iron columns of the porch of the shrine are covered with exquisite wood and inlaid wood is used on its flat roof. This tomb is highly respected by Shirazis and people go to visit it for blessings and recourse. Tashi Khatoon, the mother of Shah Abu Ishaq, has built a school and a corner next to this large tomb, where they feed travelers and a number of reciters constantly recite the Qur’an over the Imamzadeh Torbat.

On Monday nights, Tashi Khatoon would visit the tomb and that night judges and jurists from Shiraz would also be present. This crowd gathers in the tomb and recites the Quran with a happy song. Food and fruit are given to the people, and after eating, the preacher goes to the pulpit and speaks to the people. All this is done between the evening and evening prayers. Tashi Khatoon was sitting in a grid booth overlooking the mosque.
