Fars province is one of the provinces of Iran which is located in the southern part of Iran with an area of about 122,608 square kilometers, this province is the fourth largest province and with a population of 4,851,274 people, according to the population of the Statistics Center of Iran in 2016. According to the country divisions of the solar year 1399, Fars province is divided into 36 small province, 94 districts and 113 cities. The capital of Fars province is the city of Shiraz, which is estimated to be the most populous city in the province and the fifth most populous city in Iran. After Shiraz, the cities of Marvdasht, Jahrom and Fasa are the most populous cities in this province, respectively. They all have a population of more than 100,000 people. Today, in addition to the majority of Persian speakers, various ethnic groups also live in the province, including the Lors, Qashqais, and Khamseh Arabs, each of whom speaks different languages and dialects such as Persian, Lori, Qashqai, and Arabic. The important resources of the province’s economy are based on agriculture and animal husbandry, various industrial towns, refineries, petrochemical industries and various power plants. The climate of Fars province in different parts of this province is divided into three types: mountainous, temperate and warm. Fars province is one of the important tourism centers of Iran despite its numerous cultural, historical, natural and religious attractions. A number of important university centers in Iran are also located in this province.
